Ideato dall’insegnante di danza Sirkka-Liisa Forslund e attivo dal 1988, il Concorso ha continuato il suo percorso con successo anche grazie all’attuale Direttore artisticoJonas Kage, primo ballerino internazionale, coreografo e pedagogo, e alla Presidente Ellinor Samuelsson. Possono iscriversi al Concorso gli studenti (14-19 anni) di scuole di ballo preprofessionali di Svezia, Finlandia, Danimarca, Norvegia, Islanda, Estonia, Lettonia e Lituania.

Sono stata in Giuria varie volte ai tempi di Sirkka-Liisa (deceduta nel 2011) e nel marzo 2015 sono tornata, accompagnata dalla mia ex allieva Patrizia Canini. Il livello dei concorrenti è piuttosto alto, soprattutto delle femmine, ma non mancano giovani promettenti. La vincitrice della categoria Junior è la finlandese Kira Hilli (15 anni), che ha ottenuto uno stage a Roma. Update: Kira diventerà solista del Dutch National Ballet nel 2022.

Falun è una cittadina bellissima, raggiungibile da Stoccolma in treno, attraversando paesaggi fiabeschi con foreste e laghi incantatori.

Update: dal 2021 il Concorso ha cambiato nome in Prix du Nord e si svolge al Gothenburg Opera House.
